On Saturday afternoon, firefighters were called to V pevnosti street in Prague's Vyšehrad district, where a section of roofing measuring roughly two by two metres had caught fire. The house, protected as a national cultural monument and located within a conservation zone, belongs to singer Daniel Landa and his wife Miriam — one of two properties the couple owns in the area, according to land registry records.
According to Kateřina Benešová, spokesperson for the Prague Fire Brigade, the blaze was caused by an attempt to burn out a wasp nest on the roof of the house. "I've never come across anyone trying to get rid of a wasp nest that way before," she admitted. Firefighters had to strip back part of the roof covering and check the attic space with a thermal imaging camera.
The extent of the damage has not yet been disclosed. According to the fire service's press office, the case has been handed over to the fire investigation unit, and the spokeswoman was unable to confirm whether it was the homeowner himself or a hired company that had been tackling the wasp problem.
One photo from the scene shows a trailer with two large boxes parked in front of Landa's house, even though parking is normally prohibited there. Based on the logo of a ventilation equipment manufacturer visible on one of the boxes, it appears the items may have been parts of a ventilation system — the kind of roof openings that often attract wasps looking to build nests.
Fans of the singer noted that Daniel Landa could not have personally handled the wasp removal himself, since he spent the weekend performing at Vevři Castle as part of the Grady CZ festival concert tour.
Daniel Landa's residence in Vyšehrad has drawn public attention before: back in the summer of 2015, a nineteen-year-old scratched and spat on his black Porsche, which bears a red rune emblem — an incident that was caught on camera. A court later ruled that the young man had been drunk and had acted on impulse.
