Modrá to Stage Reenactment of Great Moravian Battle for Velehrad

The archaeological open-air museum in Modrá, located next to Velehrad on the site of an actual Great Moravian settlement, will host a large-scale historical festival on 8–9 August 2026, featuring a reenactment of the ancient battle for the Velehrad stronghold.

The skansen recreates a fortified settlement from the Great Moravian era and was built based on real archaeological finds, some of which were unearthed right on the site. It was also here that the historical film and TV series “Cyril and Methodius – Apostles of the Slavs” was shot.

What visitors can expect

According to the organizers, guests can look forward to a major historical festival featuring craft workshops, an archery tournament, and numerous competitions for children and adults alike. The highlight of the program, both on Saturday and Sunday, will be the reenactment of the ancient battle — organizers expect up to 200 participants from historical clubs, some of whom will appear on horseback.
