Nova unveils autumn lineup: new series and the return of SuperStar

Czech broadcaster Nova has presented its autumn lineup of series and shows at a press conference. The most successful project of last season was the series "Bulldog from Poděbrady," starring Sabina Remundová and Marek Adamczyk, which drew an average of 1.24 million viewers per episode, according to the channel.

Comedies on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Tuesday and Thursday evenings on Nova will be devoted to the comedy series "God's Plan" — 24 episodes from the creators of "One Family." The story follows three friends whose lives take a sudden turn; the roles will be played by Marek Lambora, Václav Matějovský and Filip Březina, alongside Tomáš Jeřábek and Michaela Petřeková.

Following "God's Plan," the same time slot will feature another comedy, "Men in Flight," bringing together Pavel Zedníček, Miroslav Donutil and Bolek Polívka on screen. The series explores how difficult it can be to stay calm and avoid getting bogged down in old, petty grievances.

New cases for "Angel's Crime Squad" and Marta

One of the most popular shows in Nova's history, "Angel's Crime Squad," is returning with a new season. Police officers from Prague's Smíchov district will investigate online fraud, welfare abuse, a betting mafia, organized crime, the murder of a top police officer, and juvenile delinquency.

Fans of investigator Marta, played by Taťána Dyková, can look forward to eight new episodes — the action unfolds in a recording studio, at a Vietnamese wedding, and at a medical faculty where, it seems, a vampire has appeared.

Oneplay premieres and a prison comedy

Nova will air the TV premieres of original Oneplay projects — "The Well," "The Krajný Case," "The Stodola Case" and "The Janák Case." Episodes of "Clinic in the Rose Garden 2," previously available only on Oneplay, will also be broadcast, while the show itself will continue releasing new episodes on the streaming platform as usual.

Following the spy series "Extractors" — whose second season launched on Oneplay a week ago and scored 80% on ČSFD.cz — the platform will offer a ten-part prison comedy called "Squad B." The creative duo behind it, Jan Prušinovský and Petr Kolečko, are once again teaming up after their work on the cult hit "The Bridge!" The main character is twenty-year-old David Broulík (Tadeáš Moravec), who convinces his girlfriend he had to join the foreign legion following a rough patch, when in reality he's sentenced to a year in prison — a stint that ends up stretching into several years.

Michal Reitler, Director of Development at TV Nova and Oneplay, said the company aims to broaden its range of themes and genres, seeking new ways to tell stories that both entertain and surprise viewers. According to him, "Squad B" will be exactly that kind of surprise: the project's uniqueness lies in the fact that Kolečko can be tough on his characters while Prušinovský loves them, and it's this combination that produces powerful dramatic moments.

The return of SuperStar

Starting September 2, Wednesday evenings on Nova will belong to the talent show SuperStar, aimed at a new generation of viewers. Leoš Mareš will once again host, with singer Ewa Farná, singer Pavol Habera, actor Jakub Prachař and rapper Kalin serving as judges.
