Defender Oscar, one of Slavia Prague's longest-serving players, has left the club for Saudi side Al-Taawoun. The move was confirmed by Slavia itself, which posted a farewell message on social media thanking the player for his years of service.
The Czech champions had already given Oscar permission to leave before the start of the current season, and he did not appear for Slavia in any league matches this campaign. Club president Jaroslav Tvrdík made no secret of the fact that the defender was one of his favourite players.
"If you'd told me a year ago that he'd be leaving Slavia, I wouldn't have believed you — I simply couldn't imagine it. But today I'll say I wish Oska all the best. He had a year left on his contract, and there were around three offers on the table. I hope the move works out well for him," Tvrdík told reporters in late July.
Oscar joined Slavia in the summer of 2019 from Liberec, where he continued to play on loan for a further six months. From the middle of the 2019/20 season onwards, he became a regular for the Prague club and gradually established himself as one of its key figures.
During his time in the Czech league, Oscar made 214 appearances and scored 12 goals. With Slavia, he won the Czech championship four times and the domestic cup twice.
As for his new club, Saudi side Al-Taawoun finished sixth in last season's local league.
