Novotný to be deputy mayor of Prague-Řeporyje, his sister mayor

In Prague-Řeporyje, Novotný to become deputy mayor and his sister mayor

In the Prague district of Prague-Řeporyje, Novotný will become deputy mayor and his sister will become mayor. He announced the outcome of the coalition talks on X: ODS will get the post of mayor, the second deputy mayor and three seats on the five-member council, TOP 09 will take the first deputy mayor and ANO the third.

The bloc that won the election, “Friendly Řeporyje”, will remain in opposition. It was backed by KDU-ČSL, STAN and the Pirates, and won seven seats on the 15-seat council. ODS came second.

Novotný’s past

Novotný, called the enfant terrible of ODS, stepped down as mayor in the last term: last year he spent three months behind bars after a court replaced his earlier suspended sentence with a real prison term.

He received the suspended sentence for hooliganism, incitement to a crime and dangerous stalking of the businessman Marek Vít. He later committed a series of other offences, and the court sent him to serve his sentence. Because of the conviction, Novotný suspended his membership in ODS and later returned to the party.

He commented on the outcome of the talks with irony: his father praised him and the future mayor, saying that second place in the election and prison were “a decent result”.
