Putin: Strikes on Wildberries Warehouses Cause Damage but Aren

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that strikes by Ukrainian armed forces on industrial and infrastructure facilities, including warehouses belonging to the Wildberries marketplace, are causing damage but cannot have critical consequences for the country. The statement was reported by Russia's state news agency TASS, citing the Kremlin leader.

"Attacks by Ukrainian armed forces on industrial and infrastructure facilities cause harm, but there are no critical consequences from them — there haven't been, and there can't be. But they are certainly damaging us, that much is obvious," Putin said.

Rebuilding at a "New Technological Level"

The Russian leader acknowledged that reconstruction work is proceeding under difficult conditions, and that logistics and warehouse capacity will need to be rebuilt from scratch — with state involvement in some cases. Putin instructed the government to take the necessary measures and stressed that the restoration of damaged facilities should take place at a "fundamentally new technological level."

Accusations of Supplying Drone Components

Ukraine, whose cities, ports and logistics hubs are regularly targeted by Russian strikes, accuses Wildberries of supplying components for drones and other equipment used by the Russian military. The company denies these accusations and describes the attacks on its facilities as acts of terrorism, according to the Russian opposition outlet The Moscow Times.

According to available data, Ukraine's military has hit as many as 20 Wildberries facilities since July, with more than seven logistics centers taken out of normal operation. The strikes on the warehouses have also hit small suppliers, who, unable to sell their goods, cannot service loans or pay taxes.

According to Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, cited by PBS, the goal of the strikes is to disrupt military supply chains, stoke public discontent, and create a domino effect in the Russian economy by putting pressure on major banks — including VTB and Sberbank — which have extended large loans to Wildberries.
