Reuse center to open in Czech town of Holice by autumn

The town of Holice in the Pardubice Region is putting the finishing touches on a new reuse center — a facility where residents will be able to drop off unwanted but still functional items free of charge, and pick up things left behind by others. According to Martin Bartoníček, head of the local waste collection point, the center is set to open this autumn.

The facility will occupy roughly 100 square meters, with about half the space used for storage and the other half serving as a browsing area where visitors can pick out items left by others. Bartoníček noted that people often throw away things that are still perfectly usable — most commonly furniture, sports equipment, children's toys, bicycles, dishes and various household appliances.

Building the center will cost the town's budget nearly 4.2 million koruna. The contract covers construction and installation work, landscaping, utility hookups, as well as the removal and disposal of waste generated during construction.

Holice is far from the first town in the Pardubice Region to get such a facility. The region's first reuse center opened in Vysoké Mýto back in 2018. A year later, Chrudim and Heřmanův Městec joined the initiative, and in the years since, reuse centers have also launched in Pardubice, Letohrad, Svitavy and Ústí nad Orlicí.
