Car splits in half: Audi driver killed after hitting a tree in South Bohemia

A 40-year-old Audi driver has died in a crash in South Bohemia. The accident happened shortly after 2 a.m. on a second-class road between Čimelice and Nová Bystřice: for reasons not yet established, the man left the roadway and hit a tree.

Police spokeswoman Štěpánka Švarcová said the impact was so violent that the car broke in half.

The driver suffered injuries incompatible with life, said Vojtěch Míra, a spokesman for the regional rescue service. A doctor pronounced him dead, and a coroner was called to the scene.

There were no other passengers in the car, Švarcová added. Police are still investigating all the circumstances of the crash.
