South Bohemian Region Offers CZK 32.5 Million to Buy Football Club Dynamo České Budějovice

The South Bohemian Region has made an official offer to purchase the football club Dynamo České Budějovice for CZK 32.5 million. Regional governor Martin Kuba announced the bid, explaining that the figure is based on an independent valuation of the club and its youth academy, commissioned by the region.

According to Kuba, the offer is lower than the price at which club owner Nneka Ede put her shares up for sale back in June. "As a public institution, we are obliged to act responsibly when handling public funds. That means we have to base our offer on the appraiser's report — we cannot deviate from it," Kuba explained, adding that he nonetheless considers the offer quite attractive.

What the Region Plans to Do

If the deal goes through, the South Bohemian Region intends to resell the club to a new owner — even if it means taking a loss itself. Talks about the purchase began back in June, but regional authorities decided to disclose a specific figure only after reviewing Dynamo's financial situation.

"The season is already well underway, and we don't want to waste any time. We're ready to do everything we can to make the transfer of shares happen as quickly as possible. If the owner wants to continue negotiations, we'll convene an extraordinary regional council meeting in the first two weeks of this month to approve the share purchase as soon as possible," the governor stated.

Conflict with the City Council and Loss of License

Originally, it was the city of České Budějovice that sought to buy the club, having been locked in a long-running dispute with the owner. Among other things, the city council objects to the fact that the youth academy is financed mainly by the city and the region, while the owner herself, according to city officials, contributes very little.

Dynamo plays its home matches at Střelecký ostrov Stadium, which belongs to the city — the club rents it on preferential terms for a symbolic fee. Due to the ongoing disagreement, the city terminated the lease, meaning the club will only be able to use the stadium until the end of April 2027. Because it lacks a guaranteed home venue for the entire season, Dynamo failed to obtain a license to compete in the second league and was administratively relegated to the third tier of Czech football.
