Czech hockey round 13: Třinec pointless, Sparta lose to Liberec

Hockey: Třinec without points for the first time this season, Sparta lose again

In round 13 of the Czech Extraliga, Třinec went pointless for the first time this season and lost for only the second time, beaten 6:2 in České Budějovice. Sparta lost 3:1 in Liberec and went without points for the second game in a row. Kladno ended a run of 16 defeats against Pardubice.

České Budějovice rout the leaders

The hosts settled the game in the first period, winning it 3:1. Despite a clear edge in play and shots, the Steelers never managed to get back into the game. The goals were scored by Krastenbergs, Ahl, N. Olesen, J. Kolářek (twice) and Toman; Daňo and Pirohta replied for Třinec.

Vítkovice beat Brno’s Kometa 3:2 and won in regulation for the first time in seven rounds. David Cienciala, who scored twice, stood out in particular. Kometa have now gone without points in five games in a row.

Litvínov beat Škoda Plzeň 2:0, with both goals coming in the third period from David Kämpf and Tomáš Urban. Slovak goalkeeper Matej Tomek recorded his first shutout of the season in only his second game. Plzeň have lost four of their last seven games.

Overtime in Kladno and Hradec Králové

Kladno beat Pardubice 4:3 in overtime, their first win over that opponent after 16 defeats. Daniel Odett scored the winner. It is Pardubice’s first away defeat of the season.

Hradec Králové almost pulled the game back: trailing Karlovy Vary 0:3, the team levelled the score. But in overtime, with the score at 4:3 in the visitors’ favour, American defenceman Daniel Brickley got the winner, scoring his first goal in the competition.

Liberec’s “White Tigers” beat Sparta 3:1 and, after three away defeats in a row in which they collected only two points, took all three points again. Sparta could not make up for their home defeat to Třinec and were left without points for the second time in a row. After a goalless first period, Jaroslav Vlach put Liberec ahead in the second, Devin Shore levelled the score, and Filip Jansa scored the winner in the 37th minute. Radim Šimek sealed the result while Sparta were on the power play.
