Priske explains his lineup after the Olympiacos loss in Piraeus

Priske explains his lineup after the defeat in Piraeus

After the away match in Piraeus, coach Priske admitted that Olympiacos deserved the win, even though his team could have hoped for a good result. He explained why striker Matěj Vojta started instead of Jonathan Brunes, and what tasks were given to Martin Suchomel, Ki-Jana Hoever and Matěj Jurásek.

A fair result and a drop in intensity

According to the coach, the outcome was broadly fair: over 90 minutes the opponent was the stronger side. In the first half his team had several good chances for quick counter-attacks, but failed to convert them. They were also unlucky with the goal they conceded. For the first 30 minutes the team played actively and aggressively in defence, but away from home the intensity sometimes drops. You can't give the opponent that much time on the ball, Priske believes: after that, keeping a clean sheet becomes too hard.

Suchomel, Hoever, Jurásek and Vojta

The coach is pleased with the work of Martin Suchomel on the left and Ki-Jana Hoever on the right after the matches against Baník and Olympiacos. Suchomel was given different tasks: he took an active part in build-up play and helped out as one of two defensive midfielders. Priske called him versatile and reliable in defence, but said he still needs to work on his attacking play.

Matěj Jurásek is gaining experience and match rhythm, so at times he needs a moment. He brings pace, strength and discipline, helps in the press, and in the match against Olomouc, coming off the bench, he was dangerous on the counter. The coach believes Jurásek will improve in the coming weeks.

Priske started Vojta because it was time to give Jonathan Brunes a rest. The away match was a tough one for the striker, although at times he played well. At other moments the coach would have liked him to hold the ball up better. Like Jurásek, Vojta has had little playing time so far.

Four points from three matches

After the first three matches the team has four points. Priske would have liked six. In his words, the last three games were difficult and did not bring the desired results: against Lillestrøm the team should have won, against Baník it failed to convert big chances, and Olympiacos probably deserved the victory. Now the focus must be on the details.

Hugo Sochůrek's substitution was not due to injury: he fell ill with a stomach ache.
