Sigma Olomouc beat Slovan Liberec 1:0 as VAR rules out two goals

Sigma Olomouc beat Liberec at home as VAR rules out two visitor goals

Sigma Olomouc beat Slovan Liberec 1:0 in round 11 of the Czech first football league. Hadaš scored the only goal in the 11th minute, while the visitors put the ball in the net three times but did not get to celebrate a single goal.

Olomouc coach Hapal made one change to the starting lineup compared with the match in Teplice: the suspended Lurvink was replaced by Hadaš. Visitors’ coach Fodrek, after the 2:0 home defeat to Slovácko, changed five players at once and for the first time started Mikulenka up front, who joined Liberec from Sigma in September.

Tkáč took a shot, and the ball deflected unexpectedly off 22-year-old club academy product Hadaš, wrong-footing the visitors’ goalkeeper. It was Hadaš’s first league goal in his 70th appearance. He later had another chance but shot straight at Koubek. Olomouc could also have extended the lead right after the first goal, but Sejk, falling, missed an open net.

In the 36th minute Dulay scored with a backheel, but Mikulenka, who made the pass, was offside, and the goal was disallowed. In the second half, in the 53rd minute, Mikulenka scored against his former club, and the referee initially awarded the goal. But after a video review he decided that Masopust had fouled the goalkeeper, and that Slovan goal was also cancelled.

Olomouc then had a chance in the 56th minute: Sejk failed to finish a three-on-one situation. The visitors took the initiative, and four minutes from time Mašek put the ball in the net for a third time, but the video referee again spotted offside. Late in the match Koutný bailed out the hosts, saving shots from Hodouš and Kayondo.

Olomouc have taken points in 11 of their last 12 home league matches against Slovan. Liberec suffered their first away defeat of the season. The match was watched by 4,798 spectators.
