Striker Tomáš Chorý will not play for Slavia again after being sent off in the match against Hradec Králové. Coach Jindřich Trpišovský said so ahead of the third league-phase match of the Champions League against Fenerbahçe in Istanbul; his words, taken from the press conference, are quoted by the club’s website. After a series of disciplinary offences and several red cards, the coach no longer counts on the national-team forward, and the club’s management will decide the player’s future after the return to Prague.
In Saturday’s league match against Hradec Králové, Chorý was sent off in the 55th minute for unsporting behaviour. Referee Jan Všetečka noted in his report that the striker showed him the middle finger. For the 31-year-old forward it is already his fourth red card in the last two seasons. Right after the goalless draw with Hradec, Trpišovský said that Chorý would not fly to Istanbul as a punishment, and now he has confirmed that the player is no longer in the team.
“The plan is that we have to manage without him. He will not play for us again. His further fate will be decided after we return to Prague; at the moment I do not count on him in my head. We are focused on tomorrow’s match. We will have to cope just as we have in the rest of the season,” Trpišovský said of the team’s former first-choice striker.
After Chorý’s antics at the end of last season and his sending-off in the abandoned May derby against Sparta, Slavia board chairman Jaroslav Tvrdík declared that the striker would never play for the club again. However, teammates and coaches stood up for the league’s top scorer of last season, and club owner Pavel Tykač decided to bring him back into the squad. In round 11 of the top flight the forward committed another offence.
“What happened was a big topic for us, but after the sending-off we did not discuss it. We are focused on the match. According to the preliminary plans he would not have been in the starting line-up anyway. That is how it is. Tomáš is not here, and the matter will be settled with the club’s management and through disciplinary channels,” Trpišovský said.
The player’s agent, David Neheda, does not yet know the position of Slavia’s management; after another sending-off, a move abroad could be a way out. Chorý’s contract at Eden expires at the end of the season. An extension was considered, but it is now off the table. In the autumn Plzeň, from which he moved to Slavia in the summer of 2024, showed interest in the forward, but a return to Viktoria after the latest incident is unlikely. With Slavia, Chorý won two league titles.
