Prague’s Sparta lost 3:4 in overtime to Brno’s Kometa in a rescheduled round 9 game of the Czech hockey extraliga. The same evening, Plzeň beat České Budějovice 4:1.
It is already Sparta’s fourth defeat in their last five games, and at home the team has won just one of four. Kometa have won four of their last six and beaten the Prague side for the third time in a row.
The visitors led 3:1, but in the 58th minute Ronald Knot pulled one back, and in the 60th minute Michal Špaček levelled on the power play with the goalie pulled. The game went to overtime, where Leino scored the winner for Kometa in the 62nd minute. Defenseman Filip Král, back in the lineup, collected three points: a goal and two assists. Visiting goalie Aleš Stezka stopped 44 shots.
Sparta coach Patrik Augusta admitted that the team needs wins, not a single point. Kometa are happy with the two points they took.
Plzeň beat České Budějovice 4:1 and ended a two-game losing streak in the extraliga. After a scoreless first period, the hosts scored three goals in the second. Canadian defenseman Carter Robertson scored twice and added an assist. The visitors have now gone four away games in a row without a point. The win lifted Plzeň to fourth place in the incomplete table. The day before, the team also won in the Champions League.
