Swiss Skiing Queen Lara Gut-Behrami Retires Due to Knee Injury

Swiss alpine skier Lara Gut-Behrami has officially ended her sporting career. The decision comes after a serious knee injury sustained back in November during a World Cup training session in Copper Mountain, which forced her to miss most of last season — the Olympic season that was meant to be her farewell tour.

At the time, Gut-Behrami stopped short of calling it quits for good, leaving the door open for a possible comeback. That return, however, will now never happen.

One of Switzerland's Greatest

Born in Ticino, Gut-Behrami spent 18 seasons among the world's alpine skiing elite, establishing herself as one of Switzerland's most successful athletes in the discipline. Her collection includes three Olympic medals — among them gold in the super-G at the 2022 Beijing Games — along with nine World Championship medals, including super-G and giant slalom titles claimed in 2021.

She won the overall World Cup title twice, in 2016 and 2024, and racked up 101 career podium finishes — just one shy of the record held by Swiss legend Vreni Schneider.
