Drone apparently hits tanker off the Romanian coast

The tanker Yara J, flying the flag of the Comoros, was apparently hit by a drone about 10 nautical miles off the Romanian coast, near Casla Vadanei. According to the Romanian TV channel Stirilepro, witnesses saw an explosion followed by a fire on deck.

The Romanian Maritime Coordination Centre, as quoted by Adevarul, received a request on Wednesday to carry out a rescue operation near the vessel. The coast guard said that the Syrian crew was evacuated in time and the flames were soon put out.

According to Romania's Ministry of Defence, two aerial targets entered the country's airspace shortly after 8 p.m. Operators lost track of one of them over the sea, while the other headed into Ukrainian territory and, the ministry said, was destroyed by Ukrainian air defence.
