The European Union wants to provide Ukraine with a new loan of €45 billion, but Czechia and Slovakia do not intend to take part, Politico reports. The new credit mechanism is one in which the two countries refuse to participate.
Last December, the EU had already agreed a loan of €90 billion to cover part of Ukraine’s financial and military needs in 2026 and 2027. But with the war dragging on and defense spending rising, that sum may not be enough. That is why Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked European leaders in October for another €70 billion for next year.
