Ukraine attacks Kstovo oil refinery with drones: fire and blasts

Ukrainian drones attack one of Russia

Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery in the Russian city of Kstovo overnight on Sunday. According to Ukrainska Pravda, footage of the burning plant began appearing on social media in the early morning hours, and local residents reported explosions. Military analysts believe this was the result of a strike on the refinery.

The Kstovo refinery has been a drone target before, but Russian air defenses mostly repelled such attacks earlier. Local authorities speak only of a strike on an unnamed industrial facility and say that more than a hundred drones were shot down.

The plant belongs to Lukoil and is among its largest: it processes about 17 million tons of oil a year. It is the fourth-largest refinery in Russia.

Analysts add that the target may also have included the local thermal power plant, which supplies energy to neighboring petrochemical plants as well. A hit on it has not yet been confirmed.
