Ukrainian drones destroy Russian Mi-8 helicopter on the ground

Ukrainian forces say they have destroyed a Russian Mi-8 helicopter: after it landed, two Hornet drones struck it. The unit published video of the strike.

According to the brigade, Ukrainian operators spotted the helicopter in the air and wanted to shoot it down in flight. “The enemy had to change course in flight. The helicopter was faster than our drones, but when it landed, our soldiers hit it near the fuel tanks. A second Hornet drone finished it off,” the statement says.

The video shows the helicopter catching fire after the first hit, while the second strike, the brigade says, put it completely out of action.

The Russian army uses Mi-8 helicopters to transport troops and cargo, for evacuations and for fire support. Russia lost another such helicopter in October: on October 1, in the Voronezh region, Russian forces shot it down by mistake. Three soldiers aboard were killed.
