Zelensky: It’s a pity we are losing a strong partner

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is hurt by Donald Trump’s choice: “It hurts when President Trump picks one side, and it is not ours,” he said in an interview with Piers Morgan. “It’s a pity we are losing a strong partner,” Zelensky added.

As Reuters reports, Zelensky said he does not object to Trump’s “in the middle” position between Ukraine and Russia, but made a point: “If you are in the middle, you have to stay there.”

Asked whether he feels betrayed after the US president called over the weekend for a change of leadership in Ukraine and agreed to lift sanctions on Russian oil exports, Zelensky replied: “Actually, yes… but it is a little more complicated than a question of my emotions and feelings.”

He also believes Trump’s advisers are mistaken and are pushing the president in the wrong direction: “This is not the right side of history.” “We are not selling our country… for us this is not business, it is simply our life, and this is our country,” Zelensky concluded.
