Woman Killed in Germany After Calling Police Over Husband's Knife Threats

In the German city of Rheine, a woman died from stab wounds after calling an emergency hotline to report that her husband was threatening her with a knife. The call suddenly cut off, and when police arrived at the scene, they found the victim unconscious on the street, lying in a pool of blood.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, around 6:30 pm, in a quiet residential area of the city. According to police, the woman gave the dispatcher her address and described the threat from her husband. The operator asked her to stay on the line and tried to advise her on how to protect herself, while simultaneously dispatching several patrol units and an ambulance to the scene.

According to the German outlet Bild, the woman suddenly stopped responding. By the time the first officers arrived, she was already lying unconscious with severe injuries. Paramedics immediately began resuscitation efforts, but they were unable to save the woman — her injuries proved too severe.

Son Took the Knife Away

At the scene were the victim's 55-year-old husband, who is suspected of the killing, and the couple's 20-year-old son. The young man was in a state of shock and was holding a blood-stained knife — the suspected murder weapon, which forensic investigators immediately seized as evidence.

Initial findings from the investigation suggest that it was the son who took the knife from his father after the attack. Police have detained the father, while the son is currently under the care of psychologists.

The motive for the killing has not yet been established. A police spokeswoman told the outlet Die Welt, without providing further details, that the case involves "a matter related to a partner relationship." Neighbors of the family said the couple had always seemed friendly and had never shown any signs of conflict or aggression.
