Trump says he does his own makeup, mocks Senator Ossoff at rally

Trump admits at rally that he does his own makeup, accuses Senator Ossoff of overspending on cosmetics

At a Republican Party campaign rally on Friday, October 16, Donald Trump backed the party's candidates and unexpectedly turned to the subject of makeup: the president admitted that he applies his own makeup, and accused Democrat Jon Ossoff of excessive spending on a makeup artist.

“If you don't put on at least a little makeup, you look like a corpse. And I don't want to look like that,” Trump said, accompanying his words with gestures and sound effects. He raised the topic while speaking about Ossoff, the current Democratic senator from Georgia. According to him, Ossoff has his own makeup artist who is constantly at his side: “He goes all out. I don't know how he does it.”

“Time to throw Ossoff out”

Judging by the speech, Trump considers spending on makeup one of the main criteria for a Senate candidate's fitness. “He spent more money on makeup than any man or woman in the history of the Senate. And women aren't happy about that. So it's time to throw Jon Ossoff out and elect Mike Collins,” the president urged supporters to back the Republican candidate.

Social media was immediately flooded with jokes saying it now explains why the president's skin is so orange. Vanity Fair, for its part, reported that Trump uses makeup to hide a skin condition, rosacea, but apparently knows about the unnatural shade: he has reportedly even ordered the lighting in the White House changed so that he looks less orange on camera.

Whether talking about makeup will help Republicans in Georgia will only be shown by the election. According to campaign polls and estimates, Collins trails incumbent Senator Ossoff by 4–8 percentage points.
