Leoš Anderle, longtime chief executive of developer Sekyra Group, is leading the largest construction project in Prague since the revolution: Smíchov City. At peak load, the site will turn over 900 million crowns a month, almost nine times the company's previous monthly record.
Sekyra Group is owned by billionaire Luděk Sekyra, and Anderle has headed its operations for many years. He spoke about Smíchov City in an interview with Forbes: in his words, nothing bigger is likely ever to appear in residential and office construction. So, the executive jokes, there will be enough work until retirement.
The main problem is a shortage of people: construction companies across the country cannot recruit workers. To build hundreds of apartments at once without depending on scarce skilled tradespeople, the developer had to take an unconventional step.
Sekyra Group is also looking abroad. Among its plans are billion-crown projects overseas, including a special type of property the company is preparing in Oxford, England.
