Luděk Palata: the investor who knows a healthy company by the owner

Czech investor Luděk Palata is one of the few businessmen in the country who have worked in private equity since the 1990s. In a new episode of The Forbes Show podcast, he explained how to tell at a glance whether a company is healthy, and recalled the most critical moments of his entrepreneurial career.

According to Palata, there's one simple but telling sign: just look at where the owner parks. In his experience, this detail often says more about a company's culture and management style than its financial statements.

Palata belongs to a narrow circle of Czech investors who built up experience in private equity before the market had truly taken shape in Czechia. Over decades in the business, he has gone through numerous deals and crises that shaped his approach to evaluating companies — with an emphasis on practical, sometimes unexpected details rather than just the numbers.
