Strahov Picture Gallery

Strahov Picture Gallery

The Strahov Art Gallery was founded in the 19th century by Abbot Jeroným Zeidler and is housed in Strahov Monastery, the oldest Premonstratensian foundation in the country. Although the gallery's collection numbers more than a thousand works, only a small fraction of it is actually on display.

The permanent exhibition draws entirely on the monastery's own holdings. Pride of place goes to Gothic painting and canvases from the 16th century, the era of the great Rudolf II, alongside works in the Baroque and Rococo styles, with a collection of applied art rounding out the display. Among the artists represented are Petr Brandl, Karel Škréta and Samuel Rayner.
