Black puma spotted in South Bohemia for the second time in a week

On Monday, a man spotted a large black predator by a pond near a forest in the village of Kvasejovice, close to Soběslav in the South Bohemian region. According to police, the animal was just a few metres away from him, and the witness described it as a black puma.

A week earlier, a woman driving on a road near České Budějovice, in an area known as Soudné Pole, saw a similar animal. She observed it from a distance of about ten metres and, like the man from Kvasejovice, is convinced she saw a puma rather than a wild boar or a dog.

According to police spokesman Milan Bajcura, since Monday morning officers, together with local authorities and hunters, have been investigating the latest report of a possible sighting of a large black feline predator in the region.

Police currently have no information suggesting the animal escaped from a zoo in South Bohemia or from a private breeder. If both witnesses saw the same animal, it would have covered around thirty kilometres in a week.

Police and hunters are urging local residents: if anyone spots the predator again, they should call the emergency line 158 immediately. Approaching the animal or attempting to catch it yourself is strongly discouraged.
