Boy in Jablonec inspired by TikTok video breaks into strangers' flats and cars

On Thursday, August 6, at around 2:00 pm, a local resident contacted the municipal police in Jablonec nad Nisou: an unfamiliar boy had asked to use her bathroom in her flat on Jizerská Street, and after he left, the woman discovered that her spare keys to the flat and the entrance chip were missing.

According to Jana Fričová, spokesperson for the Jablonec municipal office, the woman let the child in and waited by the door. When she told him it was time for her and her husband to leave, the boy came out of the bathroom but headed toward the living room instead of the hallway — he said he just wanted to look because it was beautiful in there. He then left.

Police found the boy near the building entrance

Upon discovering the keys were missing, the woman immediately called the municipal police. A patrol promptly began checking the building and surrounding area and soon found a boy matching the description near the main entrance. The woman confirmed it was the same child. The boy admitted to being in the flat but denied stealing the keys.

The boy's mother arrived at the scene. After hearing his account, she said she didn't believe her son, since he had also lied to her, telling her he was going to the playground.

Admitted to breaking into four cars

During the investigation, it emerged that the boy was likely also connected to an earlier incident in the parking lot near a Lidl supermarket, where, according to witness complaints, someone had been climbing into parked cars with people still inside.

The boy admitted to climbing into four cars in the parking lot, hoping to go for a ride. He said he'd gotten the idea from a TikTok video — it seemed fun, so he decided to try it himself.

The prank, however, will have serious consequences: the missing keys qualify as an administrative offense. The municipal police also reported the boy's behavior to the child social and legal protection authority.

The Jablonec nad Nisou municipal police remind residents not to let strangers into their flats, including children. If keys go missing or there is any suspicion they've been stolen, experts recommend replacing the door lock as soon as possible.
