A concert by Belarusian rapper Max Korzh in Frankfurt am Main was accompanied by mass disorder: several evenings of unrest ended with 63 people detained and many more removed from the scene. According to BILD, it is one of the largest police operations linked to a music event in Frankfurt this year.
The trouble began on Thursday evening on Zeil street, where around 500 fans of the musician gathered. To loud music they started mosh pits and set off pyrotechnics, forcing police to step in.
The next day fans began gathering under the Honsellbrücke: first a few hundred, then around a thousand people. Police moved them to the nearby Hafenpark, where an estimated 2,000 people eventually gathered. The most attention was drawn by an unauthorized gathering on the Flößerbrücke: hundreds of fans lit flares and set off fireworks, and the bridge glowed red. When patrols arrived, some of the participants scattered. In the evening, bottles were thrown at police officers in the Alt-Sachsenhausen district.
The concert itself at Deutsche Bank Park was attended by about 27,000 people. Because of the earlier incidents, police significantly tightened security: many prohibited items were confiscated at the entrance, and 25 people were refused entry. Even so, banned pyrotechnics appeared again during the concert.
The tense atmosphere persisted after the show: fireworks were again set off near the stadium, fights broke out among fans, and some of those detained, according to police, resisted.
