Police have identified the attacker who stabbed a runner in Plzeň: a 17-year-old from the Tachov district. The incident took place on Saturday at around 1 p.m. near the Ostende campsite by the Bolevec pond. The woman suffered stab wounds, police said.
Officers shared an update on the case on Tuesday shortly after noon. Spokeswoman Pavla Burešová dismissed rumors circulating among the public that the attacker was a foreigner. “We gave the case maximum attention. We worked on the theory that the victim did not know the person and became a random victim. That was later confirmed,” she said.
The 39-year-old victim was taken away by paramedics. Rescue service spokesman Luboš Bouček said the woman had suffered stab wounds. “We took her to hospital. The patient was conscious and in stable condition,” he said.
Dozens of officers searched intensively for the attacker and found him on Sunday in Tachov. Investigators established that on Saturday the youth boarded a train with his bike and traveled to Plzeň. He moved around the city by bike, and the incident at the Bolevec pond followed. He returned to Tachov the same way.
The case was first investigated as attempted grievous bodily harm and was then reclassified as attempted murder. The prosecutor will seek to have the young man taken into custody.
