Overnight in the Moravian town of Vyškov, a police patrol came across two men with heavy bags at a pedestrian crossing. Both turned out to be petty thieves returning from a bar break-in, and one of them was on the nationwide wanted list. Police reported the incident on Friday.
It all happened a few days ago. According to police spokesman Petr Vala, at around 1:30 a.m. a patrol was driving through the town and pulled up at a pedestrian crossing just as two men were approaching it. The officers immediately recognized them as “old acquaintances.” They also noticed the large shopping bag over one man's shoulder, while the other was carrying a backpack.
After crossing the road, the two hurried on. That made the officers suspicious, and they followed to stop both men for a check.
The bags were full of packs of cigarettes, lighters and cans of drinks. An ID check revealed that one of the young men was on the nationwide wanted list: he had escaped from a secure facility.
The officers then managed to find the scene of the overnight theft. As Vala explained, the goods had been stolen from one of the bars in Vyškov.
