Plzeň police detain suspect in stabbing of woman jogger in Czechia

Suspect detained in Plzeň attack on female jogger

Police in Plzeň have detained a suspect in the attack on a jogger who was stabbed in the back near the Ostende campsite. Officers announced this on X, saying that thanks to precise investigative work, forensic officers were able to identify the man, after which he was detained.

The attack took place on Saturday at around 1 p.m. A 39-year-old woman was stabbed in the back by an unknown man for no apparent reason, and he then fled on a bicycle. The victim was taken to hospital. Police had been searching for the cyclist since Saturday, and on Sunday they published his photo from a surveillance camera.

After that, police spokeswoman Dagmar Mifková said, the emergency line received many calls. Police promised to reveal details as soon as the criminal proceedings allow. The case was reclassified as attempted murder; initially it had been treated as attempted grievous bodily harm and hooliganism.
