Entrepreneurs in Czechia can already register in the EET electronic sales recording system, which will go live on 1 January 2027. The Ministry of Finance says it has sent registration instructions to the data boxes (datová schránka) of all businesses, but most of them have yet to receive anything.
On Monday, the ministry wrote on its Facebook page that detailed information on joining EET had been sent out. Many entrepreneurs, however, reported that their data boxes were empty. According to ministry spokesman Michal Žurovec, the letters are being sent out gradually because of the limited capacity of the system, which is not run by the ministry. Some businesses will have to wait until mid-November.
There is no need to wait for the letter: you can register without it. For those who want guidance, the Financial Administration has prepared a three-minute video tutorial. Entrepreneurs are also advised to check in advance with their cash register providers that they are ready for the new rules.
The first month, January 2027, will run in a pilot mode. The Financial Administration will focus on methodological support and on setting up cash register systems. However, the obligation to record actual sales applies from day one. In early December, the Financial Administration will release a free app, MOJE eet, for the smallest businesses.
The new system differs from the earlier version, which operated before the pandemic, in two ways:
EET does not apply to remote payments, such as those in online shops.
The state expects to collect roughly CZK 14 billion a year through EET. Self-employed people on the flat-rate tax with annual revenue of up to CZK 1 million can be exempt. They are entitled to opt for the EET OFF regime, but their flat-rate tax would then rise from CZK 100 to CZK 1,500 a month.
This affects everyone who runs a business in Czechia as a sole trader, foreigners included. Sales recording begins on 1 January 2027, and you can register right now without waiting for a letter in your data box (datová schránka). Self-employed people on the flat-rate tax with revenue of up to CZK 1 million can choose the EET OFF regime, but they will pay CZK 1,500 a month instead of CZK 100.
