Lavrov says the West is preparing “color revolutions” everywhere

Lavrov: any country could fall victim to a Western “color revolution”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that absolutely any country in the world, including Moscow's partners in Central Asia, could become a victim of Western geopolitical expansion and of “color revolutions” orchestrated by the West. According to him, such attempts have already been made against a number of Russia's neighbors but were stopped.

The North Atlantic Alliance, Lavrov claims, wants to dictate its will far beyond its area of responsibility, including on the Eurasian continent. “NATO is not about Eurasia,” he said, adding that the alliance is now trying to declare the entire territory of Eurasia its sphere of interest, even though it calls itself a defensive union that protects the territory of its member states. Threats to them, he said, come from the Taiwan Strait, the South China Sea and other regions. This, Lavrov stressed, is “a serious philosophical turn” that shows NATO's intention to impose its will.

The minister explained the building of a full-fledged partnership with Afghanistan by saying that “the Taliban's rule is a reality that must be reckoned with.”

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is an international regional defense alliance of post-Soviet states led by Russia. Besides Russia, its members are Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Armenia froze its membership in February 2024 and confirmed in August this year that it does not intend to return and is awaiting a formal withdrawal. Azerbaijan, Georgia and Uzbekistan suspended their membership as early as 2012.
