An intercity bus carrying 50 children got stuck under a railway bridge on Jandova street in Prague 9 this morning. None of the children were hurt. Police received the report of the incident shortly after seven o’clock, Prague police said.
The bus did not fit under the bridge and became wedged beneath it. A professional fire crew, volunteer firefighters and rescue equipment were sent to the scene. “We are working to get it to free itself,” said fire service spokesman Vojtěch Rotšedl.
The vehicle was freed by letting air out of the tyres and then pulling it out with a winch. The bridge was not damaged, firefighters wrote on X. Rail traffic was not restricted, said Martin Kavka, a spokesman for the Railway Administration: its specialists also came to check the condition of the bridge.
Traffic police are investigating the causes and circumstances of the incident, said its spokesman Richard Hrdina. The street was not closed and other vehicles were allowed to drive around the bus, but traffic had to be let through in alternation, and queues formed on the road.
