In Prague, the funicular on Petřín Hill came to a halt: because of a power outage, full cars stopped in the middle of the route, not far from the Nebozízek station. No one was hurt, and service resumed at 2:30 pm, said Andrea Řehková, a spokeswoman for the Prague Public Transport Company.
According to her, a control run without passengers was carried out along the line after the stoppage. She stressed that the funicular is currently running in trial mode.
The line to Petřín started running again on 22 September this year after a two-year reconstruction. It connects the Újezd, Nebozízek and Petřín stops; the cars first climbed Petřín Hill in the summer of 1891.
The funicular is part of Prague’s public transport system and is also a popular tourist attraction. It takes passengers up to the lookout tower, the mirror maze and the Štefánik Observatory. It is also used by students from the Strahov dormitories and by people heading to restaurants, playgrounds and gardens on Petřín.
