Ukrainian drones attacked the Togliattikauchuk chemical plant in Russia’s Samara region overnight. The enterprise has been part of the Tatneft group since 2019. According to the Russian Telegram channel Astra, local residents reported “numerous powerful explosions.”
An Astra expert who reviewed the available video footage concluded that the plant is on fire. Residents say Russian authorities have blocked the access road to the site. A heating plant is located nearby, and Astra believes it was probably damaged as well, since residents report power and water outages.
Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev also spoke about the attack on the region. As quoted by the TASS news agency, military personnel and mobile fire groups continue to repel the attack by Ukraine’s armed forces, and rescuers are working at the sites where drones fell. The governor did not mention a strike on the plant or the heating plant. Russian authorities closed Samara airport overnight because of the drone threat.
Ukrainska Pravda adds that the plant specializes in producing synthetic rubbers and gasoline additives. According to the Ukrainian army, these rubbers are used in making rocket fuel for ballistic missiles.
