Tourist bus crash near Cairo: injured taken to Giza hospital

Tourist bus crashes near Cairo, seats scattered along the road

A bus carrying tourists crashed near Cairo: the impact tore off the entire front of the vehicle and scattered passenger seats along the road. The injured were taken to a hospital in Giza, and the cause of the collision is being investigated.

According to the NDTV news site, the wreckage had to be lifted with a large crane so that it would not block the highway.

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs has no information so far that Czech citizens were on the wrecked bus, the press department of Czech diplomacy told Novinky.

Road accidents are common in Egypt. They are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained vehicles and uneven enforcement of traffic rules. According to Egyptian state statistics, almost 6,000 people died in road accidents in the country last year.

A month ago, 22 people died in a bus crash in Sinai, including 10 tourists from Jordan. In August, at least 18 people were killed in the north of the country, many of them children, when two pickup trucks carrying agricultural workers collided.
