Brno couple Iveta and Rolf Steiner revive Czech goose down bedding

Iveta and Rolf Steiner: the Brno couple bringing goose down and healthy sleep back to Czech homes

Brno entrepreneurs Iveta and Rolf Steiner are betting on something many people have long forgotten: good sleep is an investment, just like education or technology. Through their brand Polštáře & Peřiny CZ, they are bringing natural goose down filling back into Czech bedrooms.

For decades, synthetics ruled the bedroom: cheap mass-market fillings pushed out traditional materials. But according to Iveta Steinerová, that boom has led to a “sobering up”: buyers are increasingly finding that synthetics are not the best choice for healthy rest, and that nothing can replace a purely natural material. We spend about a third of our lives asleep, and the couple believe that this part of life is too often neglected.

Betting on nature

Select goose down, Steinerová explains, is a “small miracle of nature”: its fine structure traps air, provides excellent thermal insulation and draws moisture away from the body. That is why a duvet stays warm without losing its lightness and breathability. The founder herself was won over by this very material: when she first slept under a truly high-quality down duvet, she says, she understood its secret and wanted to give others the same feeling.

Czech craftsmanship and European quality

In production, the couple combine traditional and modern technologies and work with Czech manufacturers with a long history, as well as with proven European suppliers. The raw material goes through strict selection: European goose down, including the highly prized Hungarian down, is thoroughly cleaned, sterilized and sorted to meet the strictest hygiene standards.

The fabrics of the covers are just as important. Premium collections use fine down-proof fabrics made of Egyptian cotton or natural mulberry silk, which feel pleasant to the touch and keep the down from escaping. The top of the range is duvets with 100% down filling and multi-chamber pillows, which, as the owners intend, combine lightness with a long service life.

A quality down pillow or duvet, Steinerová believes, is an investment in health and energy, and a worthy gift for anyone who wants to give someone deep recovery and everyday comfort.
