Kampot pepper from Czechia: .pepper..field and the FinaMill grinder

Klára Dognalová and David Pavel: how a Czech couple turned Cambodian pepper into a luxury gift

Czechia is the world's largest consumer of Kampot pepper. In eight years, the Czech project .pepper..field has turned it into a premium product that is shipped to homes and companies around the world. Now the founders, Klára Dognalová and David Pavel, are bringing back their proven bestseller, the smart FinaMill grinder.

The .pepper..field team has been working since 2018. Its idea is that luxury can be something completely everyday, something you will use at your very next dinner, while the purchase also supports local farmers. The pepper is picked by hand in Kampot, Cambodia, and has a protected designation of origin and a distinctive flavor. In designer gift packaging, a familiar kitchen seasoning becomes a surprise under the Christmas tree. The company offers its sets to both private customers and businesses, and can ship them anywhere in the world.

Last year's hit is back in the game. Last year FinaMill set sales records on the website. “You will find it exclusively for Czechia and Slovakia only in our online shop: the founders, Alex and Sophie, gave us exclusive representation in the US,” said Klára Dognalová. According to her, the product was constantly sold out last year. “It is an unassuming little thing, but once you start cooking with it, you will wonder how you ever managed without it,” she adds.

FinaMill's creator, Alex Liu, came from technology and Silicon Valley programming and solved a problem every cook knows. Either you have one grinder for everything, and your pepper smells of last time's cumin, or you have ten different grinders taking up half the kitchen. FinaMill makes it simpler: snap in a container, press the button and grind with one hand. Need a different spice? Swap the container. Each has its own grinding mechanism, so the flavors never mix. Besides pepper and salt, with the right container the device handles about 70 more ingredients: herbs, chilies, nuts, coffee and even chocolate.

An avid cook can experiment, a beginner can easily get to know spices, and the amateur craftsman will enjoy the clever design itself. The shop's results from last year show that there are quite a few such enthusiasts in Czechia. That is why FinaMill makes a good gift for a father, a partner or a friend who runs the grill every summer.

A corporate gift people will reach for in January, too. .pepper..field products are also in demand among corporate clients. “We wanted to break the stereotype of corporate gifts that are useless things that only gather dust,” the founders explained. The Christmas offer includes Kampot pepper, designer grinders and gift sets. For companies, the wooden and cardboard packaging can be complemented with engraving of a logo, a name or a message, and the brand delivers some sets directly to the recipients.
