Bohemian Switzerland Day Trip from Prague: Gate and Gorges 2026

Bohemian Switzerland works as a day trip from Prague without a car: about 2 hours by train to Děčín (1 h 27 min) and bus to Hřensko (21 min). Pravčická Gate (Pravčická brána), Europe's largest natural sandstone arch, costs 125 CZK and is open all year, but from 1 November only Friday to Sunday, 10:00–16:00. The Kamenice gorges run until 8 November 2026: Wild Gorge 200 CZK, Edmund Gorge 350 CZK. The Gabriel Trail is still closed after the 2022 fire, so you climb to the arch from the Tři prameny junction. Around Prague checked prices, hours and closures on the official sites, and timetables in IDOS, on 30 October 2026.

Official sources disagree on the end of the gorge season: Hřensko's Czech page says 8 November, its English and German pages and ceskesvycarsko.cz say 1 November. We use the Czech page because it carries the latest notices, but for a visit between 2 and 8 November call the Hřensko information centre first: +420 412 528 344. The village also shuts the gorges in bad weather; each Czech gorge page shows the status at the top.

From April to October everything runs, but in high season the car parks at Hřensko and Mezní Louka fill up during the morning. From November to March only the gate is open, with limited services. The 2027 dates were not published on 30 October 2026; in 2026 Wild Gorge opened on 1 April and Edmund Gorge on 18 June.

What is closed after the fire and what is open

The fire started on the night of 23–24 July 2022 and burned about 1,060 hectares of the park. Falling trees and rocks remain a risk on the steep slopes. According to the park administration, these are closed:

Open:

You enter at your own risk, and the park warns of falling trees in wind, rain, snow and ice. Camping, fires and smoking are banned.

Walking to Pravčická Gate

The arch is 26.5 m wide and 16 m high, and you may not stand on it. The land around it and the Sokolí hnízdo (Falcon's Nest) restaurant are private, which is why you pay, and the viewpoints are behind the same ticket.

The climb has steps, so leave the pushchair behind; dogs are fine on a lead. The gate's website says online tickets save money and queueing. An undated park page says entry is free on winter weekends, but the gate lists no winter price, so budget for 125 CZK.

The Kamenice gorges at Hřensko

These are two separate boat trips: the gorges are not connected, so you cannot walk through.

Buses 434 and 438 run daily all year; seasonal lines 435 and 441 stop after 1 November. The bus from Děčín station to Hřensko costs 43 CZK, a DÚK day ticket 200 CZK; tap a card on board or use the DÚKapka app. Buy train tickets from České dráhy and check idos.cz: the timetable changes on 13 December.

Book only on official sites: pbrana.cz for the gate and tickets.hrensko.cz for Wild Gorge. On an organised tour, ask which gorge is included. By car, take the D8 via Ústí nad Labem and Děčín; parking outside marked car parks is banned.

Coming from Dresden

Take the S1 from Dresden Hbf to Schöna (56 minutes, hourly at :29), then ferry F1 across the Elbe to Hřensko, a 2-minute crossing about every 10 minutes or on demand. From 2 November it runs from about 8:25 to 17:30; a ticket on board costs 50 CZK. Bring ID, as you cross a border. The Deutschlandticket covers the S1 and the ferry, not Czech buses.

A sample day

Saturday 7 November 2026: leave Prague at 8:31, take the 10:11 bus from Děčín and reach Hřensko at 10:32. Do Edmund Gorge, take bus 434 at 12:37 to Tři prameny and walk up to the gate. Return on the 16:09 bus and the 17:25 R20 from Děčín, reaching Prague at 19:10.

Our calculation per adult: gate 125 CZK + Edmund Gorge 350 CZK + bus 43 CZK × 2 = 561 CZK, excluding the train to Děčín. With Wild Gorge, entry fees alone reach 675 CZK, but it needs a separate route via Mezná, too much for a short November day.

From 9 November only the gate remains, Friday to Sunday. On Saturday 14 November the bus reaches Tři prameny at 10:38 and the 14:16 back gets you to Prague at 17:10.
