In 2016–2025, Prague police investigated 15,436 violent crimes, and almost a third of them — 4,530 — took place on the ten riskiest streets. Wilsonova leads with 617 cases; it runs from Wenceslas Square past the main railway station and Florenc to Štvanice. Plzeňská is second (550) and Sokolovská third (498).
The problems are concentrated in the centre. According to Diversight.ai, over the past ten years Prague 1 has averaged seven violent crimes per street. The situation is only slightly better in Prague 2 and Prague 7, with an average of six cases.
“Among violent crimes, we most often deal with intentional bodily harm,” a Prague police spokesperson, Jan Daněk, told the outlet. Last year, intentional bodily harm accounted for 30 percent of all violent crimes. Dangerous threats, extortion, trespassing into homes and robberies were also common.
The police statistics also highlight Prague’s “party hubs”. The mix of alcohol, drugs and large crowds often leads to dramatic situations on weekend nights. This is especially visible on Dlouhá and the neighbouring streets: according to the analysis, weekends account for 46.5 percent of violent crimes there, even though they are only two days of the week. The situation on Wenceslas Square is similar.
The most violent crimes in Prague over the ten years occurred in 2022, when the number jumped to 1,787. In 2023 the figures dipped slightly, but they have been rising steadily since and reached 1,609 in 2025.
Data for the first half of this year show that the situation is not improving. By the end of June, police in Prague had investigated 974 violent crimes, compared with 810 in the same period last year. That is an increase of one fifth.
Prague is not the only place in Czechia with a violence problem. “Overall, we can confirm a rise in aggression in society,” the Ministry of the Interior notes in its report on the state of internal security for 2025. According to the ministry, verbal attacks — extortion and dangerous threats — are increasing most across the country, along with domestic violence.
There were also more murders, including attempted ones and their planning: police across Czechia investigated 156 such cases, 3.3 percent more than in 2024. Some were extreme. “There have been cases where the offender wanted to test whether he was capable of murder. The victims of such acts are random people with no connection to the offender,” the ministry writes in the report.
