Rare reptile thought lost is spotted in India after 150 years

In India, a rare reptile that was considered lost to science has been spotted again after 150 years. Scientists quickly confirmed that it is indeed the same species and described its documentation as a huge success and a true rediscovery, the ČTK news agency reports.

According to Dhiraj Mittal, a forest officer in Kutch district, Ferdinand Stoliczka published his observations and taxonomic findings on this species in 1872. His papers are regarded as important historical records of the fauna of Gujarat state. Among the reptiles he recorded in the region was this rare species.
