A fire broke out in the industrial zone of Litovel (Olomouc Region), where wooden pallets and plastic crates burned over an area of roughly 20 by 30 metres. Firefighters managed to stop the flames and save a neighbouring warehouse. No one was hurt, fire service spokesman Josef Kolásek said.
According to him, the fire never reached the warehouse building, and there was no need to warn residents of any danger. After the blaze was brought under control, crews put out hidden hotspots and removed the fire-damaged material. Because of the smoke, they had to work wearing breathing apparatus.
An investigator working at the scene is determining the cause of the fire. A preliminary estimate puts the damage at CZK 200,000. There were no injuries.
Professional firefighters from Litovel and Uničov, as well as volunteer crews from Senice na Hané and Tři Dvory, were called in to tackle the blaze.
