Pardubice's water utility has finished renovating the main sewer in the city centre without excavation: the pipe was reinforced from the inside with a special liner. According to the utility, the work had almost no impact on traffic or on residents' daily lives.
Workers finished pulling the liner through back in August. They then completed the inspection manholes and restored the roads affected by the construction. All of this was done by the end of September, and the finished project was handed over to the client.
At the busiest point, up to 25 people were working on the site. The job fell in one of the hottest parts of the year, in the sweltering city centre, which was a serious strain. “Nevertheless, we managed to keep to the schedule,” said the utility's spokeswoman Vendula Horáková.
According to her, the renovated section of the main sewer should serve the city for several more decades.
The pipe repairs preceded the planned reconstruction of Republic Square, which the city is preparing. It will cost CZK 186 million. The project includes renewing public spaces, planting greenery and trees, building a fountain, and changing traffic and parking arrangements. City hall wants to begin the main phase next year and finish the work in 2029.
