Hartmann-Rico, part of the German Hartmann group, will close its plant in the Náchod region, in Chvalkovice, in a year. The company announced the move on Thursday.
Roughly half of the plant’s workers are foreigners. The company explained the closure by pressure to cut production costs, caused partly by strong price competition from manufacturers outside the European Union.
For the same reasons, the firm already ended production at its plant in Havlíčkův Brod in March this year, where about 200 people worked. The company’s aim is to consolidate production and strengthen it with investment at its main plant in Veverská Bítýška in the Brno region. After Chvalkovice closes, it will remain the firm’s only production site in Czechia, employing about 900 people.
This affects workers at the Hartmann-Rico plant in the Náchod region, about half of whom are foreigners. The plant will close in a year.
