At the European Swimming Championships in Paris, 21-year-old Czech swimmer Matěj Kněla pulled off a stunning upset, claiming gold in the 50m backstroke with a time of 24.11 seconds — a new national record. The Ostrava native beat out the race favourites in an incredibly tight finish, with the top four swimmers separated by just four-hundredths of a second.
