41-year-old woman killed in motorcycle crash near Opava

A 41-year-old woman died in a motorcycle crash near Opava, on the stretch between Kravaře and Dolní Benešov. The accident happened shortly before 3 p.m., and all emergency services, including a helicopter, were dispatched to the scene immediately.

After falling from the motorcycle, the woman went into cardiac arrest. According to rescue service spokesman Lukáš Humpl, chest compressions were first started over the phone with the emergency line operator and then continued by the firefighters and police officers who arrived. Paramedics put her on artificial ventilation, administered medication and, because of a severe chest injury, performed urgent surgical treatment on the spot. Despite all efforts, the woman could not be saved.

The 45-year-old motorcycle driver escaped with lighter injuries. A wound on his left arm and leg was treated, and he was taken to the University Hospital Ostrava. Police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková said he was tested for drugs and alcohol at the scene, and both results were negative.

A crisis-team psychologist from the regional medical service was called to the scene to help the victim's loved ones and others affected. Police officers from Opava are working to establish the exact circumstances and causes of the tragedy.
