Poll: most Czechs try to avoid microplastics in food

According to a STEM/MARK survey conducted in September 2025 among 502 Czech internet users over the age of 18, 60% of respondents admitted that they try to limit potential sources of microplastics in food. A significant share of those surveyed also pay close attention to what their food comes into contact with during packaging, storage and preparation, including plastic dishware.

The survey also showed that certain additives can directly put buyers off a product: the presence of nitrite salt would deter 45% of respondents from buying, while an artificial sweetener would put off as many as 51%.

“Consumers are increasingly paying attention not only to a product’s ingredients, but also to what it comes into contact with during packaging, storage or preparation,” summed up STEM/MARK representative Zuzana Švalbová.
