Ukraine strikes Russia with its own ballistic missile for the first time

Ukraine has for the first time launched its own tactical ballistic missile, with a range of up to 300 kilometers, at Russian territory. This was reported by Terekhova, who added that the developers are already working on an improved version.

“For the first time, we launched our own ballistic missile at the territory of Russia,” she said. Terekhova did not disclose details of the launch or the target the missile was aimed at. She only said that its creators are continuing to improve the weapon, above all to increase its range. “We are working on an extended version, which will also appear this year,” she added.

Her words follow an earlier statement by President Volodymyr Zelensky, who announced the first launch of the Ukrainian FP-7 ballistic missile on October 2. The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing a Ukrainian source, wrote that the weapon was used against a target in one of the new Russian regions. No one has named the exact location.

Observers call the first strike with a domestically made ballistic missile a symbolic success. Such missiles will most likely be produced only in small batches: a serious obstacle to mass production is Ukraine's limited manufacturing capacity, the website Voennoe Delo writes.
