Zelensky Warns of Impending Massive Russian Strike on Ukraine as Kyiv Residents Head for Shelter

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Wednesday evening that a massive Russian attack was highly likely to take place overnight. Residents of Kyiv have already begun heading down into underground shelters and metro stations.

"The Russians began preparing a massive strike several days ago, and there is a high probability it will happen tonight. I received this information from Air Force Commander Anatoliy Kryvonozhko," Zelensky wrote on X.

News that Kyiv residents had started moving into bomb shelters and the metro was reported by the Telegram channel "Kyivskyi Dvizh," which published footage showing locals preparing to spend the night underground.

The Ukrainian president once again urged foreign partners to speed up deliveries of air defense equipment. "The protection of human lives depends directly on our partners' willingness—or unwillingness—to help us with anti-aircraft missiles," he stressed.

Zelensky's appeal was directed primarily at the United States and other allies of Ukraine that operate Patriot systems and are capable of supplying missiles to Kyiv.

"Every partner knows what is needed and fully understands the consequences of inaction. I ask everyone across all regions of Ukraine to pay close attention to air raid alerts today and stay safe," Zelensky concluded.
